Wandering Muse was founded by Lisa Silveira in 2007.  During college, she studied abroad in Florence, Italy. During her 4 months there, living alone in a studio apartment and gaining a true appreciation for espresso and the Italian way of life, she visited a small knitwear design studio.  This was her moment of inspiration.  She realized she wanted to design convertible knitwear, from yarn to finished product, utilizing local production.  It would be 10 years until she would achieve the knowledge and skill to make this dream come true.

After another stint living in Florence, Italy post college graduation, and a couple years of meandering through life, Lisa found one of her true callings:  Teaching.  She started teaching at a fashion design trade school, imparting her skill and experience in knitwear design and the sewing world with students ages 12-82.  She has been teaching for over 10 years and absolutely loves it.

Aside from teaching Lisa has taken Wandering Muse through quite the journey.  Being inspired by traveling and living out of a suitcase, her designs are primarily convertible.  Each garment can be worn in at least 2 ways.  The goal is that the clothing looks normal and no one can tell it is convertible.  So while you travel, you have more looks to wear from fewer garments in your suitcase!  For a few years she designed 2 fashion collections a year, showed at 3 fashion shows per year, and sold her collections to local boutiques.

After this she focused more on teaching and sustainability.  Slow fashion became her way.  She now produces all of the products in her studio in Portland, Oregon.  She's primarily focused on fully fashioned knitwear, convertible clothing, accessories, and sustainable items for the home.
